Rates, advances and fees

OTR does not publish a factoring rate. Its FAQ says rates depend on invoice volume and on whether you choose recourse or non-recourse factoring, and that larger fleets often choose recourse for a lower rate. Our editors recorded its rates as competitive but not usually the lowest, with high advance rates, no application fee and ACH and wire fees on top.

OTR's FAQ does publish several specific figures:

  • Load advances. Up to 50% of the linehaul before delivery, deducted from your final payment. An advance to the OTR Fuel Card costs $15, and one sent by Comchek costs $24.
  • Fuel card bundle. Carriers who factor and use the OTR Fuel Card can get up to 0.5% off their factoring rate.
  • Instant funding. Truly Instant Funding follows the same fee structure as OTR's Bolt Instant Funding, with no additional charge for the faster service. OTR does not publish the instant-funding fee itself, so ask what it is.
  • Minimums. No monthly volume minimum. Once you factor a broker's invoices, though, further invoices from that broker must be factored with OTR until a release is provided.

That last rule matters more than it looks. It means you cannot easily factor one broker selectively and bill them directly later.

Applying for factoring does not require a credit check, according to the FAQ. OTR asks for proof of insurance, articles of ownership and operating authority, and reviews your business information instead.

OTR Fuel Card

The fuel card is OTR's biggest extra. Its FAQ says the card is accepted at more than 8,000 fueling locations, including TA, Petro, AMBEST and RaceTrac, with discounts at more than 3,000 in-network locations. OTR says carriers save an average of $0.50 per gallon, or about $600 per truck per month, and that in-network transactions carry $0 fees. Out-of-network fees may apply.

The card is available without factoring, and OTR offers prepaid and factoring-backed credit options that do not require a personal or business credit check. The physical card usually arrives within three to five business days of approval.

Contract terms

OTR's FAQ confirms that it uses a factoring agreement and that lengths and requirements vary by programme. At the January 2026 review our editors recorded:

  • A standard 12-month term
  • No termination fee if you give 90 days' notice, and a sizeable early termination fee otherwise
  • Factoring only within OTR's approved broker network
  • A collateral-specific UCC filing rather than a blanket lien
  • Account set-up typically within a couple of hours of a completed application

The 90-day notice period and the sizeable exit fee are why OTR scored 4.4 of 15 on contract flexibility, the lowest of the seven. OTR's own FAQ warns that missing a notice deadline can trigger automatic renewal, and that many contracts require 30, 60 or 90 days' written notice before the renewal date. Mark the deadline in your calendar the day you sign. Our guide to switching factoring companies explains the timing.

If you are switching to OTR from another factor, its Buyout Taskforce offers a free review of your current contract. OTR's FAQ says carriers should plan for a funding gap of two to three days while a buyout is completed.

True Non-Recourse

OTR's main selling point is its True Non-Recourse Factoring. Its FAQ says standard non-recourse programmes usually cover only broker insolvency or bankruptcy, while OTR's cover extends to qualifying non-payment even when the broker is still in business. Its non-recourse page adds that there are no chargebacks, even after 90 days.

"Qualifying" is the important word. OTR's FAQ says broker disputes and potential chargebacks are handled according to your programme and the circumstances. Ask for the exact definition of qualifying non-payment, and whether disputes over damage, shortages or paperwork are excluded, before relying on it. Read our recourse versus non-recourse guide for the usual exclusions.

Funding speed and service

OTR is one of the fastest payers on our list. Its FAQ says Truly Instant Funding reviews and approves eligible invoices in seconds and sends payment to any bank account of your choosing, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including weekends and holidays. That avoids the requirement some factors impose to take instant payments into their own wallet or card first. OTR also offers same-day funding on approved invoices, ACH and wire.

The OTR mobile app and client portal handle invoice submission, document uploads and broker approval checks around the clock. The app's Fuel Finder compares diesel prices along your route.

OTR Clutch is a separate digital account and payment card for trucking businesses. Its FAQ says opening an account is free with no minimum balance, and you can issue driver cards with spending limits.

What drivers say

Public reviews compiled by our editors were good. Reviewers praised a responsive team, user-friendly technology, competitive rates and a broad range of services. The negative themes were:

  • Long processing times during account set-up
  • A lack of clarity about fees
  • No explanation for rejected applications
  • Minor problems with the app's interface and login

At the January 2026 review OTR held an A- BBB grade. The BBB profile we checked in November 2026 shows a B+ grade, with 29 complaints filed in the last three years, more than most of its rated peers. Support ran on standard business hours, about 8am to 5pm, at the time of review, although OTR promotes a policy of always answering with a live person rather than voicemail. Our editors also recorded multilingual account reps.

Who it's for

OTR suits carriers who want the broadest credit protection on offer and fast payouts at any hour into their own bank, and who plan to stay with one factor for at least a year. Fuel-heavy operations get extra value from the rate discount and fuel savings. Carriers who need cash before delivery will find the 50% load advance cheap, at $15 per advance to the fuel card.

It is a poor fit for carriers who want an easy exit, or who need to factor loads from brokers outside OTR's network. Carriers who want to factor only some of a broker's loads should note the rule that all later invoices from that broker must go through OTR.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Non-recourse cover that extends beyond broker insolvency, with no chargebacks after 90 days
  • Instant payouts to any bank account, 24/7/365, at no extra charge over standard instant funding
  • Load advances of up to 50% of linehaul for $15 to $24
  • Up to 0.5% off the factoring rate when bundled with its fuel card
  • No monthly minimum and no credit check to apply
  • Strong mobile app and portal, with multilingual account reps

Cons

  • Lowest contract-flexibility score of the seven
  • 90-day notice period and a sizeable early termination fee, as our editors recorded it
  • Factoring limited to OTR's approved broker network
  • Once you factor a broker, later invoices from that broker must go through OTR
  • 29 BBB complaints in the last three years and a B+ grade as of November 2026
  • A paid load board at the time of review

How it compares

eCapital, one place above OTR in our ratings, offers similar instant funding and a fuel bundle, a 60-day notice period and no approved-broker list, but more standard non-recourse terms. Triumph, 0.1 point behind, pays within minutes with no reserves but sends instant payments to its LoadPay account first and, as our editors recorded, files a blanket lien. If a short commitment matters more than broad cover, Thunder Funding offers a 90-day agreement and a far cleaner complaint record.
