Overview
Riviera Finance has provided invoice factoring since 1969. Its executive team page says co-founder David Clark started the business that year, and the company describes what it sells as full-service, non-recourse factoring for small and medium-sized businesses. Transportation is one of several industries it serves, alongside temporary staffing, energy, telecom and underground utility contractors. Its FAQ also lists manufacturers, wholesalers, printing companies, janitorial firms and armed guard services among its clients.
Its distinguishing feature is its physical footprint. Riviera says it runs more than 25 offices across the US and Canada, employs 125 people who approve credit, process invoices and send wires, and serves more than 2,000 clients. Its FAQ says it serves clients in all 50 states and Canada, and buys creditworthy invoices from customers anywhere in either country. For a carrier, that means you deal with a named account executive in a regional office rather than a national call centre.
Riviera Finance scored 88.9 out of 100 in our freight factoring ratings, the highest of the seven companies our editors rated in January 2026. See the full ratings and how we score.

Rates, advances and fees
Riviera does not publish a factoring rate. Its non-recourse factoring page says fees are calculated as a percentage of the invoice at a pre-determined rate, which describes a flat-style fee rather than one that climbs the longer your customer takes to pay. Ask for confirmation of that in writing, because it is the single biggest driver of cost on slow-paying brokers. Its transportation page describes its rates as competitive with no hidden fees, and its FAQ says there are no start-up fees and no fee to process your application.
On the advance, Riviera's transportation and freight factoring pages say carriers get up to 95% of each freight bill. Its FAQ adds that it aims to pay high advances and fund clients without holding reserves. A 95% advance with no reserve means almost all of the invoice value, less the fee, reaches you at funding, rather than a slice being held back until the broker pays.
Riviera's freight factoring page also advertises no monthly minimums, and its FAQ says you choose which invoices to factor. That combination suits carriers with uneven volume or a mix of quick-paying and slow-paying customers.
When our editors reviewed Riviera in January 2026, they also recorded variable-rate pricing, a small wire fee, and an optional same-day funding tier that carries a small charge, with next-day funding as standard. Riviera's site does not list those charges, so treat them as items to confirm. Ask for the rate at your volume in writing, along with the wire fee and the cost of same-day funding, and compare the total against other quotes with our factoring calculator. Our guide to hidden factoring fees lists the other line items worth asking about.
Fuel card
Riviera offers a fuel card with discounts at about 1,800 locations nationwide, including TA and Petro, Speedway and Roady's. Its transportation page says there are no account set-up or monthly maintenance fees and low transaction fees. It is a modest programme next to the larger fuel networks some freight-only factors offer, and Riviera does not advertise fuel advances before delivery.
Contract terms
Riviera's site makes two statements about commitment that need reading together. Its FAQ and "why Riviera" page promise no long-term contracts, while the same FAQ says its standard term is six months, which it can adjust to suit the client. Six months is short by freight factoring standards, where 12-month agreements are common, but it is still a fixed term.
That six-month figure updates what our editors recorded in January 2026, when they noted a standard 12-month term with flexibility. Our editors' other notes from that review remain unverified against Riviera's own pages:
- Notice and exit. No termination fee if you give 30 days' notice, and a 3% early termination fee in the agreement that our editors were told is not typically enforced. Treat the 3% clause as live until your agreement says otherwise.
- Broker network. Riviera works within a large, established list of approved customers and was fairly strict about staying inside it.
- Application. No soft credit pull or background check was required, as our editors recorded it.
Collateral
Riviera's FAQ says it requires a first position on all accounts receivable while you are factoring. Our editors recorded the UCC filing as covering receivables rather than a blanket lien on all business assets, which is consistent with that answer. A receivables-only lien leaves your trucks and equipment free for a lender, but a first position on all receivables still means you cannot factor some invoices with Riviera and others elsewhere. Our guide to reading a factoring contract explains which clauses define the lien.
Non-recourse cover
Riviera describes itself as taking the credit risk on all the invoices it factors. Its non-recourse page says that if it factors an invoice and the customer cannot pay, it absorbs the loss. As with any non-recourse agreement, the contract will define what "cannot pay" means, and disputes over the load itself are normally excluded. Our guide to recourse versus non-recourse factoring explains the usual exclusions.
Funding speed and service
Riviera says it verifies and pays within 24 hours. Its FAQ is more precise: verified invoices on pre-approved customers are funded within 24 hours of receipt, and invoices on customers not yet approved are usually funded within 24 hours as well. Money moves by ACH or wire, by overnight cheque, or by cheque collected in person.
Getting set up takes longer than at the app-first factors. Its FAQ says four to seven working days is normally enough to fund a new client, with a preliminary term sheet usually within 24 to 48 hours. Its FAQ also says start-ups are not a problem in most cases, provided there are verifiable receivables, and it serves companies from start-up up to $2 million in monthly sales.
Two tools support the service:
- FastCredit. An automated credit approval tool that checks whether a customer is approved for factoring, available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with Riviera's payment history on that customer. The non-recourse page says it is offered at no extra cost to clients, and new users get a 15-day free trial.
- ROAM. Riviera Online Account Management gives 24/7 access to your account history. Our editors noted in January 2026 that there was no true phone app, and ROAM is used through a browser.
What drivers say
Riviera scored at or near full marks on every reputation criterion. At the January 2026 review it held an A+ BBB grade and had no BBB complaints in either period we measure. The BBB profile we checked in November 2026 still shows an A+ grade and no complaints filed in the last three years. That profile covers its Irving, Texas office, and the business is not BBB accredited.
Public reviews compiled by our editors in January 2026 were overwhelmingly positive. Common positive themes were a responsive, supportive team, an efficient funding process, personal service through local offices, genuine non-recourse coverage and a clear fee schedule. The main criticism was that its technology and extras are thinner than those of larger competitors. Most other negative comments came from carriers new to factoring who had misunderstood how the process or contract worked.
Who it's for
Riviera suits carriers who value service and a clean exit over features. If you want a named account team, the option to walk into an office, and non-recourse cover without a 12-month lock-in, it is the strongest fit on our list. Small fleets that already have a bookkeeper and want a factor to act as their credit and collections department will get the most from its full-service model.
Carriers who want a polished phone app, instant payouts at 2am on a Sunday, fuel advances before delivery or a bundled load board will find more elsewhere. If you haul for many smaller or newer brokers, check early whether they pass FastCredit, because an unapproved customer means slower or no funding on that load. Brand-new authorities should also budget for the four-to-seven-day onboarding window before the first payment.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Highest score in our ratings, driven by a clean complaint record
- More than 25 offices across the US and Canada for face-to-face service
- Advances of up to 95%, no reserves as a stated aim, and payment within 24 hours of verification
- Non-recourse factoring as standard
- Six-month standard term, no start-up fees and no monthly minimums
- Free automated customer credit checks through FastCredit
Cons
- Few extras: it scored lowest of the seven on other benefits and offerings
- No fuel advances and a smaller fuel card network than freight-only factors
- Onboarding of four to seven working days
- A fairly strict approved-customer list, as our editors recorded it
- A 3% early termination clause in the agreement, as our editors recorded it, even if rarely enforced
How it compares
Against Porter Freight Funding, which placed second, Riviera offers a shorter standard term and a non-recourse default, while Porter offers 24/7 wallet advances and a fuel advance programme that Riviera lacks. Thunder Funding beats it on short commitment, with a 90-day agreement, and on funding cutoffs and fuel advances seven days a week, but files a blanket lien where Riviera's is limited to receivables. Carriers who want instant, app-driven payouts above all should look at Triumph or OTR Solutions, accepting weaker review records and longer contracts in exchange.
