A note on sourcing

Porter's live website refused automated access when we tried to check its terms in November 2026. Instead, we read archived copies of Porter's own pages captured by the Internet Archive between January and June 2026, which are linked in the sources below. Figures from those pages are Porter's own published terms as of the capture date, but they may have changed since. Where a term comes only from our editors' January 2026 review, we say so.

Rates, advances and fees

Porter does not publish a standard rate card. Its FAQ says costs depend on invoice volume, customer credit and payment timelines, and that its pricing is flat: the rate does not rise the longer a broker takes to pay. That is worth having in writing, because tiered pricing that steps up as an invoice ages can make a slow-paying broker much more expensive to factor.

The one published rate is an introductory offer. Porter has advertised a 1.5% factoring fee for the first 60 days for qualifying carriers. The small print on its owner-operator page and its rate page attaches three conditions: a one-year recourse contract, a 95% advance rate, and exclusion of Sprinter vans and box trucks. After 60 days the rate moves to whatever your contract specifies, so ask for the post-introductory rate before you sign rather than judging the offer on the first two months.

On advances, Porter's owner-operator page advertises up to 95% of the invoice, with the balance, less the fee, paid once the broker pays. Our editors recorded advances of up to 100% of the invoice less fees in January 2026, so the advance you are offered may depend on the programme you choose.

Other points from Porter's pages:

  • Credit checks. Free, unlimited broker credit checks, run through its PorterGO app.
  • Application. Applying has no impact on your credit, according to its FAQ.
  • Collections. Porter handles billing and collections, and its FAQ says these are included at no additional cost for non-recourse clients.

At the January 2026 review our editors also recorded no application fee, ACH and wire transfer fees on top of the factoring rate, and pre-approval within about two hours. They recorded one volume condition: carriers running three or more trucks had to meet a set monthly factoring volume or pay a fee, while owner-operators and two-truck fleets had no monthly minimum. Some reviewers said rates changed once they added more than three trucks. Porter's archived pages do not mention a volume minimum either way, so ask.

Fuel card and fuel advances

Porter's fuel card is accepted at more than 2,500 truck stops nationwide with diesel discounts, and its FAQ says it can be paired with fuel advances and a credit line. Its fuel card page advertises fuel advances of up to 50% of the load. The card is also available to carriers who do not factor with Porter, and cardholders get weekly savings reports.

Contract terms

This is where Porter's published terms have moved since our editors' review. In January 2026, our editors recorded a choice of month-to-month, six-month or 12-month agreements, with notice periods of 30 to 90 days depending on the term. By May 2026, Porter's own FAQ described a one-year agreement, which it says is designed to provide stability and better pricing. Its homepage and rate page say you can leave without termination fees on 60 days' notice.

A one-year term with a fee-free exit on 60 days' notice is still more flexible than most 12-month freight contracts, which often carry an early termination fee. Ask whether the 60 days can be given at any time or only before the renewal date. That detail decides whether you can leave mid-term.

Two other contract points:

  • Recourse period. Porter's FAQ says it allows 90 days of active collection efforts before any chargeback, and that its Account Resolution Team recovers more than 80% of problem invoices. Under its recourse programme, you may be responsible for an unpaid invoice once that period ends.
  • Non-recourse scope. Its FAQ says non-recourse cover applies to approved credit risk in specific situations such as bankruptcy. Its freight factoring page notes that non-recourse typically excludes operational disputes, lumper issues, paperwork problems and cargo claims. Our recourse versus non-recourse guide explains the usual exclusions.

Porter's FAQ also says you do not have to factor every invoice. Our editors recorded the UCC filing as collateral-specific rather than a blanket lien on all business assets.

The trade-off our editors found was the broker list. Porter's pool of pre-approved brokers was relatively small at the January 2026 review, and some customers said this limited which loads they could factor. If you haul for a wide spread of brokers, send Porter your broker list before signing.

Funding speed and service

Porter's FAQ lists three funding routes: same-day wire transfers, next-day ACH payments and PorterWallet. Its freight factoring page says most carriers are paid within 24 hours of submitting an invoice.

PorterWallet is a dedicated account and card for Porter's factoring clients. Its 24/7 advances page says approved funds can be moved instantly at any hour, including nights, weekends and holidays, rather than waiting for bank wires or next-day ACH. Our editors recorded no extra fee for instant PorterWallet transfers at the January 2026 review, but check the current fee schedule.

The PorterGO app brings credit checks, document scanning and submission, funding status, load boards and the fuel discount finder into one place.

What drivers say

Porter scored full marks on every BBB criterion at the January 2026 review. Its BBB profile, checked in November 2026, still shows an A+ grade and no complaints filed in the last three years. The business is not BBB accredited.

Public reviews compiled by our editors were strongly positive, praising prompt funding, a clear fee structure and a broad set of services. Negative reviews raised four themes:

  • Account reps who were hard to reach
  • Fee changes once a fleet passed three trucks
  • The need to check settlements against the agreed rate
  • A limited broker network and a wish for more hands-on involvement

Support ran on standard weekday business hours, about 8am to 5pm, with no after-hours line at the time of review. That is the main reason its assistance score was below the top three. PorterWallet now covers out-of-hours access to money, but not out-of-hours help from a person.

Who it's for

Porter fits owner-operators and small fleets who want a clean reputation, fast access to cash at any hour and a fee-free exit with reasonable notice. The 1.5% introductory rate makes the first two months cheap for qualifying carriers, and the fuel advance and fuel card programme helps carriers who need money before delivery.

It is a weaker fit for carriers who want month-to-month flexibility, which Porter no longer advertises, and for those who rely on brokers outside its approved list. Fleets near or above three trucks should get the volume terms in writing. If you need to speak to someone in the evenings or at weekends, the business-hours support model may frustrate you.

How it compares

Riviera Finance, which edged Porter for first place, offers non-recourse factoring as standard on a six-month term, but has no 24/7 wallet or fuel advances. Thunder Funding offers a shorter 90-day agreement and longer support hours, but files a blanket lien where Porter's is collateral-specific. OTR Solutions matches Porter on instant payouts and 50% load advances and offers broader non-recourse cover, but with a 90-day notice period and a much heavier complaint record.
